SUPERMARKET – Stockholm Independent Art Fair takes place on 3–6 April 2025. The upcoming edition of the fair returns to the heart of Skärholmen Centrum, showcasing a variety of artistic expressions from over 60 artist-run initiatives. Alongside the exhibition, visitors can also enjoy a selection of performance art, artist talks, and activities for children and youths. Welcome to the press preview on 2 April at 11.00 AM.
Among the over 60 artist-run exhibition spaces, SUPERMARKET will for the first time present Blackwater Polytechnic (Colchester, UK). The initiative, located in a 500-year-old barn, describes itself as an imaginary educational institution, navigating the major cultural and political changes the region is facing as a result of climate change. Billytown is an artist-run gallery in the center of The Hague participating with the group exhibition Building For Sale! Five young artists reflect on the buildings that have housed Billytown, while raising the question of the need for flexible, sustainable studios for artists.
Takeover is an artist-run project space in Beirut that creates dynamic and experimental programming with and for local artists. Three artists presented at SUPERMARKET 2025 will explore themes of memory, displacement, and belonging, connecting the personal with the collective.
– It is great to be back in Skärholmen! This is our third time arranging the fair in this cozy multicultural neighborhood, says one of SUPERMARKET’s creative directors, Pontus Raud.
Canteiro is a dynamic cultural space in São Paulo, Brazil, supporting artists in the production and dissemination of contemporary art. With six studios, an exhibition room, and an artist residency, Canteiro supports a diverse range of artistic practices, offering an alternative to the traditional white cube, making it an ideal setting for site-specific works. Komplot, an artist-run project space in Brussels, Belgium, is participating in SUPERMARKET 2025 with Denys Shantar’s project God Save the Queer(s). Through an immersive installation, Shantar embraces this year’s theme, Passion, exploring childhood, religion, migration, and queerness.
– I’m looking forward to the unique atmosphere of creativity and “art chaos” from all corners of the world. I would encourage all visitors to take the opportunity to see this amazing mix of international art and meet the artists in person, says another creative director of SUPERMARKET, Alice Máselníková.
Several artist-run initiatives return to the upcoming edition of SUPERMARKET including 126 Artist-Run Gallery (Galway, Ireland), Galleria Huuto (Helsinki, Finland), Fosforita Madrid (Madrid, Spain), and Niigata-Eya (Niigata, Japan).
– It is not only in Sweden that culture is subject to constraints. Visitors will encounter many creative survival strategies, says the third creative director of SUPERMARKET, Andreas Ribbung.
Alongside the fair, there will also be performance art, artist talks with invited guests and participating artists, and creative workshop for children and youths.
