2031 EM Haarlem
Nieuwe Vide Artspace was founded in 1994, by squatters and artists. Nieuwe Vide organises art projects, with young and upcoming artists, but we also include older, experienced artists. We promote the experiment, and give artists space to try out things. We do 6-8 exhibitions a year in our exhibition space. Nieuwe Vide also houses a project space, used for educational and artist-workshops. We have about 25 studios, rented by visual artists, graphic designers, illustrators, animators, and an instrument builder to name a few. Nieuwe Vide, as such, is a launching pad for upcoming artists' careers. Nieuwe Vide's program from 2016-2018 was about counterculture. This was funded by the Council of Haarlem, Mondriaan Fund and BankGiro Loterij Fonds. In 2019 & 2020 we 'll explore absurdism, linking it to our society, which seems to be getting weirder every day. The program will be funded by the council of Haarlem and Mondriaan Fund. True to its roots, Nieuwe Vide is socially engaged and also operates on a community level. We have a soup lunch weekly. Each year we offer an educational trajectory about art for kids aged 14-19, Nieuwe Vide Academy. We also have a filmclub, called CineClub, a film and discussion trajectory for people with a non-Dutch background. Nieuwe Vide presents artist Data Bosma. Bosma uses a large variety of media in her installations which results in creating a space or atmosphere. Her work researches the humane aspect in technology and on the web, using the digital platform as a way to analyse people or herself. Often her work is about desire or obsession, shown afterwards in offline sculptures and spaces with the same intensity.
Nieuwe Vide was founded in 1994 as an artist run space. Nieuwe Vide has it's own exhibition space (contemporary art), about 25 artist studio's and a small shop, in which we sell all kinds of nice, small art works for small prices. Nieuwe Vide is especially interested in popular culture, and specifically in crossovers with other disciplines (gaming, theater, literature, film, comics). We are very socially engaged as well.
In 2016 Nieuwe Vide will do a year program about counter culture. We are looking into what counter culture can mean in times like these, but also what historical figures of counter culture still mean. In 2016 we started with a project about writer Thomas Pynchon (In Search of Thomas Pynchon, 16th of January - 8thof March 2016). At the end of 2016 we will do a project about playwright Bertolt Brecht (The Threepenny Opera.A collaboration with art academy KABK in The Hague, Holland) in which art students will research opera and Bertolt Brecht for 6 weeks, and after that will make an opera.
Toon Fibbe, whose work we present at Supermarket, will be one of the teachers in this project. At Supermarket, Toon Fibbe a.o. will present a new version of his work 'The Birth of all flesh", in which a character tries to interpret the patterns in what seems to be an abstract expressionist painting as a market chart... Fibbe is interested in how art does relate to the financial market, and so to the current financial and economical situation. www.toonfibbe.com
