Animals and Art #102
Setting out from Camilla Flodin's dissertation Expressing the Repressed, Hjärnstorm explores the relationship between man and animals. Flodin investigates what art can contribute to the discussion on mankind's relationship to nature and the non-human animals. If mankind throughout history has defined itself in opposition to the non-human animals, it is becoming increasingly clear that this denial of animals leads to serious problems.
Flodin claims that the German philosopher Adorno's ideas on art and animals are more relevant than ever. The issue contains retrospective analyses and current voices in the discussion. Contributing writers include Lisa Gålmark, Carol J. Adams and Steve Baker. The issue also contains visual features by artists Maria Hedlund, Bryndís Snæbjörnsdóttir/Mark Wilson and the magazine Stad.
